There's lots of rumblings in the market as to the amount of failed implementations in the ERP space. Most of those failures have absolutely nothing to do with the software and everything to do with the business driving the implementation.  One of the things that's really important to understand is  why are you doing it?  What are the outcomes you are trying to achieve? Then, understanding the commitment to effort, time and resources it will take to get that done.

There needs to be a catalyst for change, a reason for what you are doing, so when you run into problems with budget, scope, and timeline, you're able to reinforce your belief using that business driver. If you don't want your ERP implementation to fail,  you need to have a clear understanding of why you're doing what you're doing and a clear focus on the desired outcome and when you do that your project will succeed.
